CAMLIS has an archive of records and collections of historical interest. It includes such varied material as nineteenth-century administrative records for the London Homoeopathic Hospital, a collection of nineteenth century homeopathic journals and books, the institutional archive of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH) and the papers of the medical herbalist Fred Fletcher Hyde, among others.
The CAMLIS Archive is listed in the National Archives’ ARCHON Directory (Archon Code 3229), with its holdings listed in the National Register of Archives. A catalogue is being compiled at present and will be available to researchers in the near future.
Visitor’s information
Camlis Archive is open to bona-fide researchers and CAMLIS members by prior appointment only. The CAMLIS Archive shares a reading room with the Library, although archival material is held in secure stacks outside the library and must be ordered up prior to visiting. The use of CAMLIS Archive material is subject to completion of a reader undertaking form upon your first visit.
For non-members, a letter of introduction is usually required together with proof of ID. Due to the fragile physical state of archive holdings, some material may not be suitable for consultation and a digital copy will be provided instead where appropriate.
Digital and printed copies of material can usually be ordered subject to CAMLIS copyright and conservation restrictions. For details, consult the archivist.
Please note that access to some holdings may require additional authorization by the material’s owners or their trustees. The archivist will advise you where this is the case.
To make an appointment or for further information please contact the archivist.
